IN-PERSON: Anti-Bias School Culture & Climate Institute

March 28-29, 2024
June 16-17, 2024

In this Museum of Tolerance Institute participants will focus on cultivating a school climate and culture that supports the goals of anti-bias and social justice education. Participants will consider how identity, diversity, justice, and action can be leveraged to effectively support students and families, and discuss ways to continue building capacity in culturally responsive teaching that centers on social justice issues and critical consciousness while supporting students' individual needs. Participants will leave the Institute with the tools to:

● Identify characteristics of school environments that reflect diversity, equity, and justice.

● Gain strategies for investigating approaches to educational leadership, including interrogating our individual circle of control and ability to influence important inclusive practice in educational institutions-digitally and in-person.

● Gain tools to transform schools and create learning spaces that discern the differences between culture and climate and that are inclusive of all voices in the community.

The on-site sessions include custom tours, special speakers such as a Holocaust Survivor and/or Dr. Terrence Roberts of the Little Rock Nine, and/or other witnesses to history. Facilitators welcome and host everyone in small and large groups for dialogue and debrief with peers. The live workshops are led by experts in anti-bias education, using a variety of interactive modalities and online resources. Lunch and materials are included Free. This program is covered by a grant from the State of CA and offers travel assistance, one night of hotel, and ground transportation.
