Bring your students to the Museum of Tolerance.

Thanks to generous support from our sponsors the Museum of Tolerance (MOT) is pleased to offer FREE ADMISSION for teachers and youth serving organizations and their students in grades 7-12. Because funding for this opportunity is limited, teachers are asked to submit an application of intent. Applications are now being accepted and will be awarded on a first come first serve basis, until funding for this opportunity has been expended. All Museum visits must be completed by December 20, 2013.
The MOT thanks Wells Fargo Foundation, Joseph Drown Foundation, Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation, Connecting Kids Heart2Heart, and Pacific Life Foundation, for their generous support.
Major themes throughout the experience include the power of words and the role of the bystander.
THE HOLOCAUST EXHIBIT - a 70 minute sound and light presentation.
- Students are led back in time to witness events in Europe during World War II.
- Each student receives a photo passport card with the story of a child whose life was changed by the events of the Holocaust.
THE TOLERANCENTER - interactive exhibits
- Expose the dynamics of prejudice and discrimination historically and today.
- Challenge students thinking about one’s role and responsibility to demonstrate alliance and confront injustice and hatred.
THE EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:
- 3 Hour Tour of The HOLOCAUST and TOLERANCENTER Exhibits
- Optional free pre-tour of the MOT for teachers on one of three teacher appreciation days (June 16, August 18, or October 20, 2013). Registration required.
- Free teacher resources available online.
- Free parking
- Substitute teacher coverage or reimbursement
Expectations of Teachers and Adult Chaperones:
- Prepare students for their visit to the MOT by introducing topics and themes that will be presented by Museum content.
- Discuss ahead of time, appropriate museum manners and field trip behavior.
- Review, debrief, and discuss the experience with students upon return to classroom and school to connect the experience to students’ lives, campus events, or classroom learning.
- Provide follow up information to Museum staff and funders of this opportunity indicating teacher and/or student responses to the Museum experience, and any extended learning or applications that resulted from the experience. Such follow up products might include: teacher/student response to surveys, teacher/student summary reports, outlines of curricular applications or instructional units, student work (poetry, creative narratives, art work, photos, videos, essays, etc.), plans for campus activities and tolerance based initiatives.
Priority Is Given To:
- Current or former Title I schools
- Programs for at-risk students
- Programs that support first generation college-bound students
- Initiatives that demonstrate a commitment to developing or expanding an anti-bullying program
- Programs that support the development of students as leaders
- Classrooms that are developing or plan to develop curricular units that support the topics and themes of the Holocaust and other topics in the Museum
- Classroom and extra-curricular units and activities that meet service-learning guidelines
Deadline for Submission: Applications are currently being accepted and offers will be awarded until all funds are expended; however, submission of your application prior to July 1 is recommended.
