Book Award Submissions for 2012

Call for 2012 Submissions.

 

The Simon Wiesenthal Center/Museum of Tolerance Library & Archives welcomes submissions for the 2012 Once Upon A World Children's Book Award. We invite book publishers and members of the public to nominate children's books that meet the following selection criteria:

Young Readers' books for the 6 to 10 year old that promote the themes of tolerance, diversity, and social justice.

Young Adult books for ages 11 and up that promote the themes of tolerance, diversity, respect and social justice.

Selection Criteria

   1. Depicts heroic deeds that lead to tolerance and social justice. 
   2. Promotes acceptance of social and personal responsibility. 
   3. Shows a sense of urgency and empowerment of the individual. 
   4. Conveys the importance of history.

  • May be a picture book, fiction, non-fiction, or poetry.
  • Must have been published in 2011 in the English language (translations acceptable)
  • Winner to be announced May 2012.
  • $1,000 award in each catagory presented to the authors at a ceremony on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.

We invite you to tell us about the books that have made an impression on you, that have encouraged you to think differently about your fellow man. Please submit your suggestions with the following information to:bookaward@wiesenthal.net: title, author, publisher and ISBN (if available).  

  • Deadline for submissions is February 29, 2011

  • The winners will be announced in May 2012
