Operation Last Chance - An Evening with Ephraim Zuroff

Sixty years after the end of World War II, members of the Nazi party and their collaborators are still alive – and are increasingly difficult to track down. And the clock is ticking. But Efraim Zuroff will not give up.
In 2002, Zuroff launched a vast campaign called “Operation Last Chance” to find the biggest Nazi criminals, before it’s too late. Combining the thrill of a detective story with the inherent poignancy of WWII history, Operation Last Chance delivers the important and moving story of one man’s efforts to being criminals to justice.
Efraim Zuroff is Director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Israel.

Kristallnacht Commemoration - Night of Broken Glass

With keynote speaker Daniel Jonah Goldhagen author of the new book Worse than War: Genocide, Eliminationism, and the Ongoing Assault on Humanity.
Special screening of excerpts from the new PBS documentary, based on his book.
Goldhagen is also the author of the #1 international bestseller, Hitler’s Willing Executioners. A former Associate Professor of Political Science and Social Studies at Harvard University, he is the son of Holocaust Survivor and retired Harvard professor Erich Goldhagen.

2009 Once Upon a World Children's Book Award
Sunday, November 1, 2009
The Once Upon A World Children’s Book Award celebration on Sunday, November 1st at the Museum of Tolerance will honor Book Award Winners Claire A. Nivola, author and illustrator of Planting the Trees of Kenya: The Story of Wangari Maathai (Frances Foster Books) and Alma Fullerton author of Libertad (Fitzhenry and Whiteside). Workshops and activities will begin at 1:00pm and the awards program, including special dramatic presentations by the National History Day Champions from Fruitvale Junior High School, will begin at 2:00pm. Sign language interpretation will be available for the awards program. A reception and book signing will conclude the program.
This event is free but requires reservations via phone to (310) 772-7605 or email to bookaward@wiesenthal.net. On November 2nd and 3rd, the Museum of Tolerance will host videoconferences with on-site and out-of-state elementary students for each of the winning books.

Shir Ba’Ir Daniel Pearl World Music Day Performances

Shir Ba'Ir (Hebrew for "Song in the City") is a mix of semi-professional singers, composers, pre-cantorial students, and others who have been singing together since 2005. They perform familiar and traditional texts worked into new musical compositions, along with original and traditional songs arranged for a cappella. All songs are sung in Hebrew or are Jewish-themed.

What games do children play in Brazil and Guatemala? Learn about handmade games in the exhibition, The Power to Play: From Trash to Treasure. Then create your own games using recycled materials.
Compete in the creativity contest and have your toy displayed in the museum. Using the special exhibition as inspiration, you can enter toys made at the MOT Toy Workshops or create a toy at home and bring it in. A mystery prize will be given to the toy made with the most creativity and all winning toys will be displayed in the museum.
