Senior Accountant


The Simon Wiesenthal Center, Inc., a global human rights organization, is seeking a full-time Accounts Payable Accountant.

Reporting directly to the Controller, this exempt position is responsible for providing financial support for a multi-office non-profit organization based in Los Angeles. Duties include but are not limited to general ledger maintenance and support and account reconciliations. Strong organizational, problem-solving and time management skills are required. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail is needed with ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.


  • Reconcile main operating bank accounts, intercompany accounts, inventory, and fixed assets, research discrepancies and prepare journal entries and/or corrections as necessary
  • Reconcile inventory accounts to the general ledger on a monthly basis, coordinate and provide support for year-end physical inventory count and prepare final inventory adjustment and valuation reports
  • File and pay quarterly and estimated sales taxes related to inventory and sales
  • Responsible for recording fixed assets and depreciation in fixed asset software, and preparing year-end audit schedules and other reports as requested
  • File state and local property tax returns and annual payments
  • Prepare journal entries and reconciliations related to other assigned areas of responsibility at month-end and year-end close
  • Prepare audit schedules for the yearly audit
  • Engage and partner with other finance team members as well as other departments as needed to resolve accounting questions and issues quickly
  • Support external auditors
  • Contribute to department and organization special projects as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 4+ years staff accounting experience
  • Non-profit accounting experience preferred and/or interest in working in the non-profit world
  • Solid understanding of GAAP
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
  • Ability to work independently and resourcefully to accomplish wide-ranging responsibilities

Computer literate: Mandatory proficiency in MS Excel, ability & willingness to learn proprietary custom software program.

35 hours/week, Monday-Friday
