Join us for the Culminating Event of the Jewish Student Leadership for a Diverse World Program

Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm

On Sunday, May 16th, the Jewish Student Leadership for a Diverse World (JSL) program held its culmination event in the Peltz theatre. Attendees were greeted by MOT Director Liebe Geft, and SWC Executive Director Rabbi Meyer May, before remarks by The Honorable Jacob Dayan, Consul-General of Israel, and his wife Dr. Galit Dayan, who commended the program participants on their tremendous effort over the past year in building partnerships and bridging Jewish - Latino divides. Later in the day, Pastor Walter Contreras, Co-Founder of LA Red, along with Willie Jordan, President of the Fred Jordan Missions, added their commendations and best wishes to the student leaders for their dynamic, innovative and important work.

Following a beautiful performance of Andalusi (Spanish-Jewish) music by Yuval Ron Music, each of the six outreach project groups and their Latino partners, presented mixed multi-media and staged overviews of their project activities and outcomes. Projects included inter-cultural dance and cooking, Holocaust Education, the creation of the “LaJu” web blog, a Dialogue Group, and Museum workshops.

Attendees were then invited to a catered reception in the museum.

This memorable event was a tribute to the young JSL student leaders and their Latino partners, who worked successfully together over the last year to demonstrate the true possibilities of Jewish-Latino relations, and the building of solid and enduring inter-community friendships in Los Angeles.
