2009 Once Upon a World Children's Book Award

The Once Upon A World Children’s Book Award celebration on Sunday, November 1st at the Museum of Tolerance will honor Book Award Winners Claire A. Nivola, author and illustrator of Planting the Trees of Kenya: The Story of Wangari Maathai (Frances Foster Books) and Alma Fullerton author of Libertad (Fitzhenry and Whiteside). Workshops and activities began at 1:00pm and the awards program, including special dramatic presentations by the National History Day Champions from Fruitvale Junior High School, began at 2:00pm. Sign language interpretation was available for the awards program. A reception and book signing concluded the program.
On November 2nd and 3rd, the Museum of Tolerance hosted videoconferences with on-site and out-of-state elementary students for each of the winning books.
