One Person Crying: Women and War

Special Exhibition Opening Event

Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 7:00pm

This 28-year, personal global photo essay addresses the immediate and lingering effects of war on women. Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Marissa Roth’s journey took her from Novi Sad, Yugoslavia in 1984, to Vietnam in April 2012. 88 prints cover twelve conflicts over a 28 year time period, starting with the photographer’s own history as a child of Holocaust refugees. The exhibition includes panels with historical perspectives and references to the wars addressed by Roth.

Marissa Roth was born and raised in Los Angeles. She is an internationally published
freelance photojournalist and documentary photographer. Marissa was part of the Los Angeles Times photography staff that won a Pulitzer for Best Spot News Coverage of the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

Reception sponsored by
International Medical Corps and Women's Empowerment Foundation
